SAFE AND SOUNDMISSION 5 - PART 1
Song Inspired: [link]
"Matthew, I-" I was interrupted before I could finish, before I could finally let my best friend know how I felt. A loud, pained roar rang out from somewhere near town: the wind rattled the windows of our base. I stopped midsentence, my thoughts going completely blank. "Did you hear that?"
"I did," Matthew uttered, quietly. The wind steadily continued to pick up, causing the base to sway slightly back and forth in the gusts. "It sounded like Sorbet. I wonder what's going on."
I grumbled, loudly. "I'm getting too old for this nonsense!" Matthew cracked a small smile, causing the air of tension to lighten slightly. "Whatever it is, I assume PK is to blame."
"Why do you say that?"
I rolled my eyes. "Think about it...PK has been sticking her stinking purple nose (she does have a nose, right?)…into the business of the God's. That doesn't make sense...oh, gosh...I'm so tired." I let out a huge yawn; it had suddenly dawned on me that, in the past two days, I had only slept around two hours. "What I mean is she's messing with some pretty legendary 'mon here. She doesn't understand Sorbet's po-"
Again, my sentence was cut off; this time, as Riley came crashing down the stairs. "Kelsea, Matthew...we need to get out of here!"
"What?" Matthew questioned, slightly terrified, slightly confused.
"Look outside! It's a blizzard! And," Riley paused, running towards the northern-most window, "if you look into town...something is going down! I'm not sure what, but I think something is up with Sorbet!"
"That was my thought, exactly." I growled. "We should head into town and see what's going on."
"That seems a bit reckless, Kelsea." Matthew warned, rising to his feet. Even though he warned me against my, so called, 'reckless' behavior, I could tell he was preparing himself for the cold, frost-bitten air outside and whatever the town held. I glared at him, defiantly, as he continued. "Let's go. Riley, are you up for it?"
"Of course I am!" He howled, bounding down the stairs. Within seconds, I heard the door slam open as the small, limping Poochyena exited the base: Matthew and I quickly followed.
The air was even colder than I had imagined it to be. How could a night, once filled with large, fluffy snowflakes, turn into something out of one's darkest nightmares? The sky was pitch black, trees were bending with the sheer force of the wind: some were bending so far, they were breaking with a sickening, stomach-turning snap. I let out a small gasp, looking around the barren wasteland. Had it really been that long ago that the grass had been lush and green, Pokémon running playfully through the meadow? My mind started to wander back to a time when things were simple...before the dragon had entered the town, back when...
"Kelsea, let's get going!" Matthew called, his voice lost in the gale. He quickly leapt to my side, placing his tail on my shoulder. "Keep close to me." I pressed myself up against his side; he did serve as a nice wind-block, to say the least. Riley flanked his other side, quietly.
Quickly, we made our way towards town. The closer we got to the commotion, the sooner our fears were confirmed: Sorbet was rampaging, destroying everything in his path. Houses, buildings, the fountain...nothing stood in his path. Within seconds, the fountain was no more...and everything looked even more like a barren wasteland like it had in the previous seconds.
"He's...he's gone mad!" I heard Riley whimper. His voice was muffled, fear evident. "We have to stop him now!"
"No!" I bellowed, taking charge. The voice that came from my mouth sounded strange, and I allowed myself to consider how I sounded. It sounds odd, doesn't it? Considering how you 'sound'. If it had been a year ago, when Matthew and I had our first mission...had I sounded the same? Had I sounded so...old, mature...or childish and naive? "We will head to the Guild's home to get orders from Devonshire or Gunpowder!" I glanced at Matthew...his gaze offered me some comfort that I had doubted that I would be able to find in a nightmare like the one unfolding. "Secondly, you will listen to my orders without question! Am I clear?"
"Ok, then...let's go!"
